Manual handling education and training
Manual handling accounted for over 30 percent of workers compensation claims in NSW in 2006-2007. The manual handling requirements of workers involves more than just knowing how to pick things up safely from ground level. Manual handling involves pushing, pulling, carrying and exerting other forces to perform specific work tasks or to operate equipment. It is important that employees are appropriately trained for all of the physical activities that they perform at work.
Advanced Physiotherapy & Injury Prevention works with employers and employees to develop a practical education session target workplace safety outcomes. Our Workplace Safety & Injury Prevention workshops can be tailored to suit one-on-one mentoring or small groups. Education, assessment and feedback are provided about current manual handling techniques as well as provision of onsite manual handling training utilizing work related objects and equipment. Manual handling training costs vary according to the number of educators required, the number of participants and the duration of the program. Advanced Physio is able to design a manual handling program to fit with in a budget.
Ergonomic Assessments
Is the set up of your workers equipment going to contribute to an injury?
Advanced Physio's occupational physiothepists can answer the question " Is the setup of my employees' equipment going to contribute to an injury? An assessment can be conducted to ensure that the equipment being used by your worker is set up to best suit their physical build. Having the appropriate equipment and positioning it to suit the individual worker can eliminate unnecessary load on the worker and therefore decrease the likelihood of injury and absenteeism. Ergonomic assessments will identify what is appropriate for an individual worker performing a specific task. If you require a more widespread assessment of multiple employees who use a variety of equipment or workstations then why not consider undertaking a risk assessment for musculoskeletal disorders.
Risk assessment for musculoskeletal disorders
Our qualified occupational physiotherapists can assess the business facilities to identify any risks to employees' work environment. We are also able to identify design set up or user techniques which may contribute to injury. Whether employees work at a desk or with machinery, it's worth getting a qualified professional to assess your workplace safety. Office relocation, new job tasks, new employees and new equipment are all reasons to reassess your workplace, an injury risk assessment is a good investment since it highights and often eliminates risk factors of injury. Employers and employees are educated on how to identify risk factors within their own work tasks, since they often have the best knowledge of how their job gets done.
