Shoulder injuries

The shoulder is perhaps the most complex joint in the body. It is the most mobile joint in the body yet needs to absorb great force. Advanced Physio has treated more than 2000 shoulder injuries over the last ten years.

Common shoulder injuries we treat include:

  • Adhesive capsulitis (frozen shoulder)
  • Rotator cuff tears
  • Impingement syndrome
  • AC joint injuries

Our qualified physiotherapists manage shoulder problems with a combination of manual therapy (hands-on treatment including stretching, mobilization, and massage).

Recent Evidence for Physiotherapy & Exercise

Rotator Cuff Impingement

A systematic review of the evidence for exercise in the treatment of rotator cuff impingement published in the 'Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery' in 2009 concluded that exercise has significant effects on pain reduction and on improving function. Manual therapy augments the effects of exercise. The 'Journal of Rehabiliation Medicine 2009' examined the effects of physiotherapy in patients with shoulder impingement syndrome and concluded  that physiotherapy was as effective as surgery for the sample studied.
