Shoulder & Elbow Injuries

The most common upper limb injuries we see are tennis elbow and rotator cuff injuries/impingement syndrome of the shoulder. These injuries are known as tendinopathies and require specially designed exercise programs, and customised advice to achieve good results. Frozen shoulder is also common, and how it is treated depends on whether it is in the early, middle or late phase.

Advanced Physio has treated more than 2000 shoulder injuries over the last ten years.

Common shoulder injuries we treat include:

  • Adhesive capsulitis (frozen shoulder)
  • Rotator cuff tears
  • Impingement syndrome
  • AC joint injuries

Our qualified physiotherapists manage shoulder problems with a combination of manual therapy (hands-on treatment including stretching, mobilization, and massage).

Rotator Cuff Impingement

A systematic review of the evidence for exercise in the treatment of rotator cuff impingement published in the 'Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery' in 2009 concluded that exercise has significant effects on pain reduction and on improving function. Manual therapy augments the effects of exercise. The 'Journal of Rehabiliation Medicine 2009' examined the effects of physiotherapy in patients with shoulder impingement syndrome and concluded  that physiotherapy was as effective as surgery for the sample studied.
