What does an Accredited Exercise Physiologist do?

An Accredited Exercise Physiologist, is a university-qualified health professional trained in exercise prescription for people with injuries, medical conditions, and chronic disease.

Your EP will assess your current health, fitness, strength, movement, goals, and barriers to exercise. They will then design a program that suits your ability and helps you progress safely.

This may include strength training, balance work, cardiovascular exercise, mobility exercises, education, lifestyle advice, and strategies to help you stay consistent.

Physiotherapist or Exercise Physiologist?

A Physiotherapist is often the best starting point if you have a new injury, pain, movement restriction, or recent surgery.

An Exercise Physiologist is often the best choice if your main goal is improving health, managing a long-term condition, building strength, increasing fitness, reducing falls risk, or becoming more confident with exercise.

In many cases, both can work together. For example, a physiotherapist may help you recover after surgery or injury, then an Exercise Physiologist can help you build strength, fitness, and confidence.
